* What's the main difference between uPVC pipe fittings & PVC pipe fittings?
A: There is only one difference between PVC and uPVC and that is that PVC contains BPA and phthalates, which are two plasticizers that make it more flexible. The "u" in uPVC stands for "unplasticized," and because it doesn't have these extra materials, uPVC is often called rigid plastic.
 
Because of its rigidity, uPVC is a better construction material than PVC. The plasticizing materials in PVC toxic, although it is very low, so PVC pipes & fittings are undesirable for transporting residential water for drinking. uPVC pipes & fittings don't include any toxic plasticizers, so they are suitable for drinking water transportation.
 
* What's the max. Working pressure of uPVC gasketed fittings? How about the max. Working temperature?
A: SUNPLAST uPVC gasketed fittings are designed and manufactured to GB/T10002.2-2003, ISO 4422-3:1996, ISO 1542-3:2009 standards and rated for a maximum internal pressure of PN10 bars at 20ºC.
 
The uPVC pipe fittings are suitable for COLD water only, the maximum recommended operating temperature is 60ºC.
 
* Are uPVC pipe fittings UV-resistant?
A: uPVC is an extremely versatile product that has uses ranging from drinking water to highly corrosive chemical applications. The product contains UV stabilising additives and thermal properties which ensure that it is suitable for both interior and exterior environments.
 
* What's the installation process of uPVC gasketed fittings?
A: To install the uPVC fittings with rubber rings joint, there are several steps to follow:
* Pipes may be jointed out of the trench but it is preferable that connections be made in the trench to prevent possible "pulling" of the joint. Check that the spigot end, if cut in the field, has a chamfer of
approximately 12°to 15°
* Clean the socket of uPVC fittings, especially the ring groove. Do not use rag with lubricant on it. Some pipes have captive rings which must not be removed in the field. For all other rubber ring joint types, clean and dry the ring and ring groove and insert the rubber ring into the groove, please make sure rubber ring is well placed in the groove smoothly. Run your finger around the lead-in angle of the rubber ring to check that it is correctly seated, not twisted, and that it is evenly distributed around the ring groove
* Clean the spigot end of the pipe as far back as the witness mark. Ensure all burs are removed. Apply jointing lubricant to the spigot end as far back as the witness mark and especially to the chamfered section. Keep the rubber ring and ring groove free of jointing lubricant until the joint is actually being made.
* Align the spigot with the socket and apply a firm, even thrust to push the spigot into the socket. It is possible to joint 100mm and 150mm diameter pipes by hand. However, larger diameter pipes such as 200 mm and above may require the use of a pipe puller. Joint so that the witness mark is just showing.
