An electrofusion reducer fitting is used to join two lengths of poly pipe that are of different diameters. Electrofusion reducer fittings are also used to join a long spigot fitting to a piece of pipe, where one of them is larger or smaller diameter than the other.
 
Made by 100% PE100 material, SUNPLAST HDPE electrofusion reducer can be supplied in a diameter sizing from 32×25mm to 400×315mm in SDR11-PN16.
 
SUNPLAST HDPE electrofusion reducer fittings are injection molded in one time, and conform to ISO4427-3,EN12201-3, AS/NZS 4129, EN1555, EN ISO15494 standard (ISO4437-3 for gas)

A: Electrofusion welding involves the following steps:
• Preparing the pipe for removing the gaps and cleaning the contaminants
• Marking the connection on the pipe, rubbing the pipe surface
• Reinforcing and applying strain on pipe or connector
• Applied electrical current
• Cooling, opening clips
• Documentation of the process
• Final payment, cleaning and removal of contaminants
 
* HDPE butt fusion fittings & HDPE electrofusion fittings, which one is better?
A: HDPE butt fusion fittings & HDPE electrofusion fittings, both are the most common used HDPE pipe fittings.
 
* Material Costs
The HDPE butt fusion fittings are regular much cheaper prices than HDPE electrofusion fittings. The HDPE pipes adopt butt fusion methods, no special coupler fittings needed , so less fittings will be requested, and much lower on material costs.
 
* Installation Costs
The HDPE electrofusion fittings can be welded in much simpler way, which can be used for the certain circumstances where butt fusion is not practicable. Less installation costs & labor costs for electrofusion, as well as electrofusion machine is much lower on prices.
 
*Reliability of Jointing
HDPE electrofusion fittings has a more reliable jointing than HDPE butt fusion fittings. The HDPE electrofusion fittings can weld in secondary times when a leak happens.

Finally, it depends on the project size and type, and location of installation.  Electrofusion fittings can be a better choice for smaller, tighter spaces where onsite welding is being used.
 
* Can HDPE electrofusion coupler be used for welding the PPR pipe?
A: No, HDPE electrofusion coupler is manufactured & designed to weld to the HDPE pipeline only, NOT suitable for PPR pipe.
 
* Is there any barcode on the electrofusion fittings provided by SUNPLAST?
A: Yes, all HDPE electrofusion fittings are with a barcode on it. The worker on site can use electrofusion machine to scan the barcode, so all welding parameter will be inputting to welding machine automatically.
 
* Can electrofusion fittings made by PE100 material weld to the pipe in PE80?
A: Yes, this will be ok. To guarantee the best welding result, we recommend to use PE80 fittings to weld to the PE80 pipe.
 
* What's the typical reasons that make the electrofusion welding fail?
A: The majority of fittings that leak do so because of incorrect installation. The three main causes of joint failure when using electrofusion fittings are:
Poor joint preparation
• Contamination of the joint caused during the jointing process
Misalignment of the pipe within the fitting.
 
So, to achieve the success of electrofusion welding, a well trained installer strictly follow the guide is very important.
 
* Is scraping necessary before Electrofusion?
A: Yes, before electrofusion, the installer shall scrap the oxidation layer on both edage of HDPE pipe, the scrap area shall cover the edage of pipe to the marking line on the pipe, which mark insert depth of the electrofusion fittings. This is necessary step.
 
* What's the effectiveness of electrofusion welding?
A: The effectiveness of electrofusion depends on attention to preparation of the jointing surfaces and ensuring that the surfaces to be welded have satisfactory contact during the welding and cooling cycles. The pipe surfaces to be fused need to be scraped to remove the surface oxidation layer prior to fusion.
 
To prepare the jointing surfaces the pipe surface must be scraped with an appropriate pipe scraper, as recommended by the pipe or fitting manufacturer, to remove the entire surface of the pipe over the area indicated, to a depth of approximately 0.3mm. Following scraping the scraped surface must be wiped with an authorised Ispropanol impregnated pipewipe, as recommended by the pipe or fitting manufacturer, to remove any dust residue. Methylated spirits, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) or other solvents are not recommended for wiping the scraped surface. The prepared surfaces must be completely dry before proceeding.
 
The resulting joint, when properly made, is as strong as the original pipe and can withstand all the loads applied during routine installation and operation.
